October 2008 |
The fall is here and we have had a very "windy" season. We are currently working on our new competition songs: "Goody, Goody" and "There Are Things You Cann't Buy With Gold". We are looking forward to having our coach Vickie Dennis join us soon. We already have several Christmas Performances booked starting in November. One of the biggest events is coming up for our chorus. We are going on a "Retreat Cruise" in January. It will be full of fun, learning, eating, visiting Cozemel, etc. Our Santa Letter sells is starting up. We need to sell, sell, sell. Ho, Ho, Ho! |
June 2008 |
During the month of June we have been working on our repertoire songs and getting ready for our first Leisure Class. It is almost the end of June and we have had three classes so far. I look forward to them every week. We are working on a new song together with the class. It is: "Goodtime Barbershop" and along with that, we are working on " We'll Meet Again". Both songs will be performed at our end of session show in July by both the chorus and the Leisure Class. It has been a wonderful time sharing and learning with these ladies each week. |
May 2008 |
This is the beginning of a new team. I am once again responsible for the website. I will be making a sheet called "Members Notes" and emailing them to the chorus during the month. I will also attach them to this page so that you can look back at them if need be.
We have been very busy since the beginning of this year. I think that we have had more paid sing outs than we have every had this past year or so. Proves that we are "GREAT!!!!"
We had a retreat here in Baton Rouge. We went to competition in Houston and came in third in small chorus. YEA!!! I had a great time this year and will be looking forward to future regional events in Houston.
The annual Appreciation Party was a blast. Thanks to Molly and Virginia S. for the great food. We honored all of the people that helped during the year. It sure makes us feel good to be remembered.
We have also made our yearly events such as: Whole Foods Market, and the Fest for All. We do these for community service and they are so much fun.
Now we are back to May 2008 when we installed new officers. There is a new folder of the Installation Celebration in the Photo Section of this website along with a lot of other pictures to see. |

Happy New Year, Everyone!
We had a great Christmas season -- 10 Christmas performances all around town. Wasn't that fun! It was good to have our "SnowFlakes" with us -- Tolly, Susan B, Penny, Alma, and Kristina. Christmas chorus really does help make that time of year so much more special.
And now we have to concentrate on Competition. As Cate reminded us today, only 11 more rehearsals until Competition -- first weekend in April! Lots of work to do, ladies! Annette has sent out a page with the choreo for our up-tune -- be sure to look it over and give it a run-through or two before rehearsal!
Check out your emails and the calendar for upcoming potential performance dates-- Jan will be passing out a sign up sheet.
Haven't heard yet, but Gwen should be a Granny by now! Congratulations to Gwen and Alex and their family. We want to see pictures!
Happy Birthday to Trish (today) and to Gwen whose birthday I missed on the 11th... |
Nov 6, 2007 |
Alma joined us for our Snow Flake season...welcome back, Alma!
We went through the entire Christmas repertoire on Tuesday. Still needs some work ladies...need lots of practice with our Blue Ribbon voices! Review your music and especially note the breaths and such...
Cate wants us to continue qualifying on "We'll Meet Again" next Tuesday, so dust it off!
We reviewed choreo for Carolina and SF Bay Blues. I'll see if Gloria can write up some notes that I can send out so folks will have something to refer to when practicing.
Don't forget to promote those Santa letters! |
Oct 28, 2007 |
We had coaching with Vickie this week, and as usual, we learned a lot and enjoyed ourselves in the process! Some changes were made to our competition songs, so be sure to get the notes from someone if you weren't there. I posted a few pictures on the Photos page <<Click here>>
Jan says we've got several Christmas performances lined up already and we'll probably book the rest of our Tuesdays and Thursdays in December...yay! Susan B, Penny and Kristina are our "Snow Flakes" this year....and Seema is talking about auditioning to be a permanent member! yay!
Practice those Christmas songs!
Also, we heard that Molly (lead) doesn't have to have surgery and is doing better and may be back to sing with us soon! another yay! |
Oct 7, 2007 |
Wow, we have a celebrity among us! Cathy's family won an energy-efficiency makeover contest that will give her up to $25,000 in new appliances and repairs. As reported in Baton Rouge Busines Report: "Clites, who has eight other family members living in her house, was selected from nearly 9,000 entries in the Eureka $mart House Energy Efficiency Challenge. Clites wanted to cut her utility bills, which were running nearly $500 a month for her four-bedroom, two-bath home." Congratulations, Cathy, and be sure to pass along those energy-saving tips to the rest of us! |
Oct 7, 2007 |
Well, our Guest Night brought us a few extra faces...Trish stopped by and sang for a while, Seema came back for her third week, Kristina is back, and Frances from the Woman's Council pitched in! Lovely food and too much of it, as usual! If you have friends or acquaintances who are still interested, bring them with you next week! We had hoped that Susan F. would be back from her travels to sing with us for the season, but it doesn't look like it's going to be. We worked on Christmas Chopsticks. Cate handed out all the Christmas songs so we'll be working on them each week from now on!
Team Meeting this Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 5:30pm.
Oct 18 is a Thursday and possible performance night -- please let Cate or Annette know if you'd be able to sing that night.
Coaching sessions scheduled for Oct 27. Mark your calendars!
The Show Committee has been putting their heads together. We've got a theme, but need some help with making a flyer, and running the silent auction. Let Annette know if you're interested. |
Oct 2, 2007 |
Unfortunately our new Molly won't be able to sing with us for a while due to health problems. Molly, do what you have to and hurry back to sing with us...we need your beautiful voice! |
Sept 16, 2007 |
Another Guest Night is coming right up on Oct 2. Be sure to let your friends and family know. We'll be prepping for the Christmas Chorus and looking for "Snow Flakes" who want to sing with us for our Christmas performances!
Taping for Baby Mine will continue, and Cate says she wants to start taping our newest song, "We'll Meet Again" this week!
Next performance is Sept 28 for the Woman's Council luncheon -- check the Calendar!
Oct 18 is a Thursday and possible performance night -- please let Cate or Annette know if you'd be able to sing that night.
We have two coaching sessions scheduled -- the first is Oct 27 and the second is on the first Tues in Jan. Mark your calendars!
Annette had the new chorus shirts for us to try last week, but ran into some difficulty with sizing -- she's trying to iron that out.
The Show Committee has been putting their heads together. We've got a theme, but need some help with making a flyer, and running the silent auction. Let Annette know if you're interested.
Patty C. has decided to join another chorus...we sure will miss her beautiful voice, but wish her all the best in her new endeavors! And happy birthday, Patty! |
Aug 19, 2007 |
Guest Night is this Tuesday, Aug, 21st! If you haven't already done so, invite a friend, acquaintance, or perfect stranger to attend! Wear your green chorus t-shirt or something a similar color if you don't have one.
Taping for Baby Mine will continue, although I'm not sure we'll do it this week since it is guest night. Practice all your repertoire songs. We'll be getting another new song soon!
Next performance is Sept 28 for the Woman's Council luncheon -- check the Calendar! |
Aug 5, 2007 |

July 29, 2007 |
We'll have our LAST qualifying taping of Carolina in the Morning this week. Seems like we just got this one, doesn't it?! Be sure to bring your recorders if you need to tape. I'm sure we'll continue review of the visual plan for SF Bay Blues again -- practice on your own so you know what you need to work on! You should also be working on Baby Mine and Cate says we'll get our next song very soon!
Annette will at the church early this week for clumping (qualifying w/ tapes or other small groups instead of on the risers). She'll be there at 6:00. Clumpers and accompanying singers welcome!
Big decisions have been made regarding the show date! It will be in the spring instead of the fall -- the probable date is Feb 16. All chorus members -- mark your calendars! Ideas for theme, costumes, and props are flowing. If you have a soft doll (at least 17" tall, no plastic or porcelain hard parts) bring her with you this week.
We have a performance coming up on Aug 18, with a Guest Night to follow right after on August 21. Start spreading the word...
And the most exciting news...Viki is now a member! We sang her in last week and she's officially one of us! |
July 4, 2007 |
I think I'll do a combined Sweet Note this week since I missed last Sunday and this week's notes are fresh on my mind...
Wasn't the coaching with Kim just great? We learned a lot and the difference it made with Baby Face was pretty amazing! Cate sent out her coaching notes by email but I think I'll post them here as well.
We had our first qualifying taping of Carolina in the Morning this week. Be sure to bring your recorders next week if you need to tape. There was a slight change of interpretation for Sentimental Reasons and Cate is still working out a few of our "bugs" but she said we'll be taping that one soon as well. Patty C and Gloria worked out the visual plan for SF Bay Blues and I'm sure we'll review that after we get the sound worked out.
Cate and Annette asked for everyone's thoughts regarding show dates. It's difficult to find a date in the fall that doesn't bump up against LSU football schedule. Some of the options are: two Sunday shows, using Oct 27 for show instead of coaching (which will be difficult if not impossible to reschedule for the fall), moving the show to Nov or Dec or even after the new year. Since it's important that we have every voice for the show, if you know of dates that conflict with your schedule, or if you have suggestions, please send them to Cate and Annette by email.
And the most exciting news...Viki is nearly a member! She formally auditioned last night, so we'll hear the results from that soon (no worries, I'm sure!), and then the Team will discuss (no worries there either, I'm sure!). I have a feeling we'll be singing her in soon!
Happy 4th of July! Do something Patriotic today! |
June 24, 2007 |
I hope y'all muddled through without me last week :-) I asked Emily what I needed to make note of and what our assignments were. She said Molly (Lead) was sung in as our newest member! Congratulations to Molly and we are so glad to have you. She also said Viki returned again -- good for you, Viki! We love having you visit...and would love to sing you in as a new member, too!
Cate handed out the cd's with the new songs and gave us the sheet music for Carolina in the Morning. Another new song to learn!
If you haven't already done so, we are to sign up for two or more show committees. Please refer to Annette's email to see what the choices are and respond to her email with your choices.
I still don't have profiles for a few people for our members page. Please send me a bit of bio information so I can update the website! |
June 10, 2007 |
Launch of new chorus website! Tell me what you think!
Please send me bio information for the Members page.
We had a great time at the performance for the Southern Dames last night! They even gave us little gifts--so sweet!
Don't forget about Region 10 Education event to be held next Sat (6/16) at the church. Practice "That's What Friends are For"
Taping will start for SF Bay Blues this week...and maybe last chance to tape in chorus for Sentimental Reasons. We're getting another new song soon, so let's get these down! |
June 3, 2007 |
Molly (Lead) passed her audition and was recommended to the Team for membership...and she's been heartily accepted! Congratulations, Molly, and welcome!
Don't forget, we'll have the 3rd opportunity for taping Sentimental Reasons this week. And it'll be the first opportunity for taping San Franciso Baby Blues -- are you "off paper" yet??
We'll be reviewing the repertoire for our upcoming performance on June 9. And Annette says we'll wear the same costume as the performance at the Old State Capitol (black with green scarves, earrings, black hose and shoes). Let her know ASAP if you're missing anything!
Going Away party for Susan Farmer is Wed June 6 at 6:30 pm at El Rancho. The restaurant is on Florida blvd, directly across from the church where we rehearse.
June 16 is the Region 10 Education event here at the church. Let Annette know if you will be there or not.
The 2007 Show committee will be organizing soon...be thinking what role you want to play! |
May 28, 2007 |
I was out of town this weekend, so didn’t get a chance to send an update last night. Hope y’all had a good memorial day!
The CD’s for San Francisco Bay Blue are made and I’ll have them with me tomorrow! Have y’all looked at your music? I’m sure we’ll work on this song again as well as Sentimental Reasons.
Don’t forget we have a performance coming up on June 9th! Cate said we’ll be reviewing the repertoire on rehearsal nights as well.
I may be forgetting something, so if I am, chime in! See you tomorrow night! | |
